Frank Baum is said to have derived his inspiration for the Emerald City from The Del’s spiraling turrets and the classic comedy "Some Like it Hot", starring Marilyn Monroe was filmed at The Del in 1958. In 2007, The Del unveiled the cottages and villas at Beach Village, 78 exclusive ocean view guestrooms and suites set within a private enclave with pools and hot tubs, front desk and concierge service and access to all of the resort’s amenities. Inspired by the original hotel’s coastal architectural style, the one, two and three bedroom suites offer a great room featuring an inviting kitchen, dining and living spaces with a cozy fireplace, many with magnificent ocean view balconies and patios. Additional enhancements completed in 2007 include redesigned and upgraded guestrooms in the Ocean Towers and California Cabanas and a new entry garden reconnecting the hotel with Coronado village. Rooms in the historic Victorian building underwent a $10 million restoration in 2005. And, in 2006, The Del unveiled the Paseo del Mar, a beautiful, landscaped beach walkway connecting both ends of the resort.
