Grand Hotel Cocumella

Grand Hotel Cocumella in Sorrento sits high on a cliff overlooking the sea and Capri in the distance. This is a place where time seems to stand still. Repeat guests often tell us just that. It may happen to you while you are walking through their peaceful mature gardens in the early morning or maybe in late afternoon when the sun is behind the trees and the light is like no where else on earth. Perhaps, after a long lunch by the pool and then a swim. This is the beautiful summer day that never ends. In between you may even find time for a game of tennis or a work out in the gym.  Cocumella has managed to discreetly move into the 21st century while still maintaining the illusion of the past.

It was once a glamorous stop on the Grand Tour along dramatic coast of Italy. (Goethe stayed here). Before that, Grand Hotel Cocumella was a 16th-century Jesuit monastery, and it occupies the grounds where a once-lavish Roman villa stood 1,500 years before. Then in 1822 it bacame a hotel. It's magnificent centuries-old grounds are filled with botanical wonders and lavish floral displays. It is a place where a change of scenery will be remembered for a very long time.

The main restaurant, Scintilla, specializes in regional fare, much of it pulled fresh from the sea, and draws as many locals of Sorrento as guests. It is regarded as one of the best along the cliffs of Sorrento. Coku Robata Grill, open in summer only, is a first for Sorrento. See Dining Tab.

A seasonal dining area is set up by the pool for buffet lunches and the open air piano bar, open July and August, is ideal for pre-dinner cocktails.

The spa has recently been expanded to include additional beauty and health treatments. Other options include a seaside dock that you can swim off and is reached via private elevator. Guests can also charter the Grand Hotel Cocumella's two-masted 1880 schooner, the only one in Sorrento, for day cruises to Capri and down the Amalfi Coast.

Cocumella's varied accommodations are well-kept, with wear and patina co-mingling with mostly sunny exposures. All show traditional style with period lamps, original antique furnishings, paneled walls, armoires, air-conditioning, TVs, minibars and phones. The suites have been updated with flat-screen TVs, and Wi-Fi is now available throughout the hotel. One-third of the accommodations are suites, of which most boast vast terraces. One occupies two floors, and a few sport private whirlpools. The best rooms, 311 and 303, are a pair of suites with terraces.

Cocumella should be thought of as an adult hotel however, well behaved children are welcome.

The boat “Vera” is available for daily excursions in the Bay of Naples. (Positano & Amalfi Coast, Capri, Ischia

Maximum capacity: 18 Guests

The price for the private hiring of the boat is EUR 2.000,00 + 8% VAT the price does not include any port charges. It is possible to arrange a light lunch on board.

Payment & cancellation policy:
• The 50% of the amount must be paid upon confirmation.
• The balance must be settled within 15 days prior to the boarding.
• For booking within 15 days prior to boarding, the whole amount must be paid upon confirmation.
* In case of bad weather conditions the price of the hiring must be paid in full.

In case of cancellation the following amounts will be charged:
• within 30 days prior to boarding: 30% of the deposit.
• within 29 and 15 days prior to boarding: 50% of the deposit
• within 14 days prior to boarding: 100% of the deposit

On the hotel's vast terrace with wonderful views to the Island of Ischia and the distant Naples shore, The Coku is the first and only Robata Grill in Italy complete with a Japanese chef. Cocumella's newest addition also offers a loungy atmosphere with both mediterranean and oriental influences, where guests can enjoy such delicacies as octopus with citrus fruits, spare ribs karamiso yaki and black cod marinated with alga konbu. The restaurant and cocktail bar is open during summer months for dinner only and is also open to the general public.
