Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

Renowned Scottish author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle once took a break from penning the Sherlock Holmes novels to write the following in the guestbook at the Jasper Park Lodge in 1925: " A New York man reaches heaven, and as he passes the gate, St. Peter says, 'I am sure you will like it.  A Pittsburgh man followed and St. Peter said, 'It will be a great change from you.  Finally there came a man from Jasper Park Lodge.  'I am afraid,' said St. Peter, 'that you will be disappointed.'"  A bold claim indeed, but certainly not an unwarranted one.  Nestled between the captivating Rocky Mountains and enchanting northern lakes in northern Alberta, The Fairmont Hotel Jasper Park Lodge is a luxury destination surrounded by nature's majesty.

Located at the heart of a UNCESCO World Heritage Site, the Fairmont Hotel Jasper Park Lodge offers endless opportunities to enjoy the rustic beauty of the northwestern Rockies.  Hike up to Athabasca Falls, one of the most powerful and breathtaking waterfalls in the Rocky Mountains.  Or take an exciting Snowcoach Tour through the Columbia Icefields out onto the Athabasca Glacier, a prominent tongue of the largest ice field south of Alaska, for an awe-inspiring look at icy crevaces and ice-fed streams.  Take a dip in the Miette Hot Springs, which are the hottest springs in the Rocky Mountains, or experience the romance of rail travel aboard the Rocky Mountaineer on a 2-day daylight tour traveling through more than 600 miles of wonderful scenery along the legendary rail routes of Western Canada.  Than there's Pyramid Lake, where visitors can enjoy fishing, windsurfing, sailing, and waterskiing, and Patricia Lake, where vacationers can canoe, swim, or picnic.  Interestingly, Patricia Lake also attracts scuba divers, who come to explore the remains of an abandoned World War Two era project, which attempted to construct an unsinkable aircraft carrier from ice.  It now lies on the floor of the lake, waiting for adventurous travelers to explore it.

Outside of these appealing natural attractions, The Fairmont Hotel Jasper Park Lodge also features a world-class golf course, which hugs snow-capped mountains, meanders past glacial-fed lakes and through a wildlife corridor featuring elk, caribou, bears and woods.  Carved right into the surrounding pine forests, The Fairmont Hotel Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course is anything but your run of the mill golf experience.

While summertime offers opportunities to take on the challenge of the golf coursecanoehikewindsurf, and even scuba dive, when winter rolls around it's ski season.  Marmot Basin, with its 4 mountain faces84 trails, and 1,650 acres of skiable terrain is just 20 minutes away.  This Basin features incredible glades, stunning views, open bowl skiing, and state of the art facilities.  Surprsingly for such a magnificent destination, its also one of the least crowded major ski areas in Canada, famous for its mantra that 'the only lines are the ones you leave in the snow.'

Whether you've been careening down the slopes at Marmot Basin, galavanting about the Rockies on one of the many tours, or canoeing in the picturesque lakes, its always nice to come back to the Fairmont Hotel Jasper Park Lodge's luxorious clutches for some rest and relaxation.  Offering a wide array of treatments which will bring you a sense of peace and well-being, the Insignia Spa is the perfect place to unwind after a long day of adventure in the Rockies.  Near the spa is the health club, which features an outdoor heated swimming pool, indoor whirlpool, sauna, steam room, and exercise room.

Equally relaxing are the hotel's lavish accomodations.  The Fairmont Hotel Jasper Park Lodge's 446 guestrooms and suites offer you homelike comforts and amenities while being surrounded by incredible views of majestic mountains and the emerald green Lake Beauvert.  Discerning travelers will enjoy staying in one of the hotel's Luxury Signature Cabins, like the five-bedroom Point Cabin, which welcomed the likes of Marylin Monroe and Robert Mitchum during the filming of 'River of No Return,' or the Outlook Cabin which has hosted King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.  These luxury signature cabins feature wood-burning stone fireplaces, Jacuzzis, whirlpools, and spacious seating areas for socializing and hosting company.

So come enjoy all the rustic scenery and rugged activities that this UNESCO World Heritage site has to offer while simultaneously staying in the lap of luxury at the Fairmont Hotel Jasper Park Lodge.
