Casa de Campo

Casa de Campo has always been one of the most complete destinations in the Caribbean.  The 7,000 acre resort offers a multitude of things to do so it’s not likely that anyone would be bored here.  Hi profile people like it because they can be anonymous if that’s what they want. American royalty; the Bush family, The Clintons and various well known movie stars have all been. Casa de Campo provides its own immigration and customs for those who choose to land on their air strip. Otherwise it’s just  20 minutes from La Romana airport and about 1hr 45min from Santo Domingo.

A 20 million dollar refurbishment has recently been completed and the main areas of the resort; the lobby, pool, restaurant, lounge and fitness center have all been completely updated to the 21st century.  Notable is the new Beach club restaurant by New York renowned Le Cirque, La Casita restaurant and the Cygalle Healing Spa.  Coralina stone and oak woods were used in creating a minimalistic design that captures a warm Caribbean feeling by bringing interior and exterior environmental elements together.

Casa de Campo resort is known for its numerous private villas which are individually decorated and are managed and rented by Casa de Campo.  However, as part of the renovation, the 80 rooms and suites in the main hotel have been redone.  Modern open floor plans that include larger bathrooms that feature separate showers and baths with golf course views, LCD flat screen TV’s. blu ray disk players, ipod and iphone docks.

Arriving at Casa de Campo has always been thoroughly professional. Checkin formalities are quick and efficient. Once delivered to your accommodations, guests find a private golf cart for use throughout their stay.

Besides the restaurants mentioned above the resort offers in total more than a dozen eateries. Informal, yet tasteful dining areas serve excellent Continental, Italian, Mexican, French and standard international favorites. A grill supplements these offerings, and the golf, tennis and shooting clubs have dining facilities of their own. Most of the restaurants offer children's menus.

Casa de Campo has a disco, but the prime after-dark attraction is the entertainment in the 5,000-seat amphitheater at Altos de Chavon, where the Kandela Afro-Caribbean-themed cabaret is hosted in season and where top international singers also perform.

Sports facilities here outrival any in the Dominican Republic. Golf takes star billing, with the world-famous Teeth of the Dog course acclaimed as the Caribbean's most challenging play. The world's largest shooting facility for trap, skeet and simulated hunting includes a 60-station, 110-position sporting-clays course advertised as "Golf With a Shotgun." There are 13 clay tennis courts (six lighted) and two world-class polo fields (matches twice weekly in season, and lessons available). Ball boys rush to field stray hits to keep players focused on the game.

The small, manmade beach proffers kayaks, paddleboats and other watercraft, and the resort's motor launch takes guests to nearby Isla Catalina, with its own superb beaches and snorkeling.

The Cygalle Healing Spa offers a variety of organic treatments using fresh, natural ingredients.
Additional amenities include fine stables, an expensive gym, and the marina, which has ample mooring space and a hotel schooner for day sails. Children ages 5 to 12 enjoy the "Kidz 'n Casa" program, where they can play polo on donkeys.

A concierge desk, tour office, three car rental agencies, a jewelry store, fashion boutique, gift store, plus on-site ATM round out the facilities in the main complex, while the marina has two full-service banks and a wide range of boutiques, art galleries and miscellaneous stores. Two conference rooms handle up to 500 delegates and supplement the amphitheater for major conclaves. A business center supplies Internet access and photocopy and fax machines.

Casa de Campo's nearly 300 casitas in the one- and two-story buildings closest to reception constitute the majority of the lodgings. Although far from the beach and for the most part lacking sea views, they are exquisitely furnished and feature terra-cotta floors, raised wooden ceilings (in upper-level units) with ceiling fans, whitewashed walls, and a surfeit of glossy wooden trim and louvered windows and French doors opening to spacious balconies.

The two-bedroom villas, some with private pools, are mostly privately owned. These are a step up in elegance, configured with kitchens, stocked bars, plush baths with hair dryers and encircling verandas. The huge baths offer true luxury and have a separate dressing area with full wall-mirror with halogen lighting and Gilchrist and Soames toiletries and are stocked with heaps of fluffy towels. Robes and slippers are provided, and umbrellas are a thoughtful touch.

The massive scale of everything here can be daunting, but the friendly staff helps to ease any tension, and most guests happily sacrifice individual attention for the plethora of facilities. The resort is becoming more child-friendly with each passing year (children 18 and younger stay free with parents).

CASA de CAMPO

THE WORLD’S LEADING GOLF RESORT. Three golf courses, 63 legendary Pete Dye designed holes!

Casa de Campo has been recognized each of the last 5 years as the World's Leading Golf Resort at the annual Global World Travel Awards. Pete Dye has created each course to be a unique test of golf. The 27 holes at Dye Fore play along the cliffs above the Chavon River and around several inland lakes on the new Lagos nine. The recently renovated Links offers tight fairways, small greens and tall native grasses nestled amongst the luxury villas of the 7,000 acre resort. Although each course is unique, they all play on lush green fairways and have stunning views of the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea.
