Day 1: USA or Canada — San José, Costa Rica
Upon arrival in San José, we are transferred to our hotel for a brief introductory reception with our guide.
Day 2: San José — Monteverde
We drive to Monteverde and its nearby Cloud Forest, stopping en route in Sarchi, famous for its artisans and colorful hand-painted oxcarts.
Day 3: Monteverde
Set out to explore the unique and spectacular Cloud Forest Reserve, containing six ecologically diverse habitats.
Day 4: Monteverde — Fortuna (Arenal)
Travel to Rio Chiquito by four-wheel-drive vehicle, then boat across beautiful Lake Arenal.
Day 5: Fortuna — Peñas Blancas — Fortuna
A morning float trip down the Peñas Blancas River takes us in search of the howler monkey, caiman, toucan and sloth.
Day 6: Fortuna — Tortuguero
Fly to Tortuguero on the Caribbean coast. Slow-moving tropical rivers are the essence of Tortuguero, and this afternoon we explore narrow canals in search of wildlife.
Day 7: Tortuguero
Continue exploring canals by boat then visit the Caribbean Conservation Corporation (CCC) Museum to learn about the Atlantic green sea turtle.
Day 8: Tortuguero — San José
Return by air to San José for sightseeing that includes the Teatro Nacional and the famed Gold Museum, boasting one of the world’s most extensive collections of pre-Colombian gold.
Day 9: San José — USA or Canada
We transfer to the airport for homebound flights
