Marquis Los Cabos
The Marquis Los Cabos is, with out a doubt, the best and most luxurious of the larger hotels on the Baja peninsula in Los Cabos. The seven story structure is designed to make a strong visual impact and indeed it does, especially when you arrive at the open air lobby. Its soaring barrel vaulted ceiling frames dramatic views of the ocean and water is rushing down two tiers into the main pool. Its dramatic beauty is almost too distracting from the business of checking in. Luckily the reception staff handles the check in quickly while you’re sipping the welcome drink that all arrival guests are offered.
Two outdoor infinity pools are the focus of the grounds, which are dotted with numerous native palms and plants. Great pool service makes lounging here, while overlooking the Sea of Cortez, one of the main activities guests seem to enjoy.
The fitness center is the largest in the area and offers every type of equipment the serious gym rat would ever need. There is even a rock-climbing wall. The holistic spa affords great ocean views with exotic treatments and private dressing rooms that have three whirlpools, a sauna and a steam bath.
Beside the pool, the Dos Mares restaurant and bar specializes in seafood dishes, and Vista Ballenas serves a fusion of Mexican and Californian cuisine for all meals on a terrace overlooking the the sea. During the winter months whale watchers delight as these large creatures frolic just off the hotel's shores. The gourmet Canto del Mar dining room has a set menu that changes weekly.
The function space, said to be the largest in Los Cabos, features a ballroom for up to 1,000 people, as well as a conference center, large foyer, terrace, four breakout rooms and a showroom.
The suites are done in contemporary Mexican style, with cool stone-tiled floors, dark-stained furnishings built into the walls, original oil paintings, and softly colored striped or patterned fabrics, with nary a floral in sight. Paddle fans twirl overhead, and all rooms are equipped with air conditioning, TVs, minibars, high-speed Internet, safes and phones with voice mail and data ports.
The least expensive accommodations here, junior suites, are quite roomy at 650 sq ft, and have one king or two double beds, sofa beds, and marble baths with whirlpools. The huge Marquis suites are more than twice as large, and boast separate living and bedrooms, as well as private plunge pools edged by large shaded terraces. CD players are the bedside alarms, Bulgari toiletries dress up the baths, and Frette linens cover the beds.
The 28 casitas are larger still and situated on the beach. These sybaritic lodgings feature large living rooms, bedrooms, kitchenettes and large plunge pools. The walls of glass in the living and bedroom slide into the walls opening up the accommodations to the gorgeous beach and crashing white waves. Unit 701 is a particular favorite, but hard to confirm prior to arrival. Be sure to bring your IPOD as well.
Breakfasts are served each morning in little alcove niches without guests having to answer the door in the pajamas.
Room service runs 24 hours day, and turndown service arrives nightly.
