Le Toiny- St Barthelemy

There are dream romantic tropical getaways, and then there’s a trip to Le Toiny, set over looking  the sparkling azure waters, pristine white sands, and colorful cottages of St. Barthelemy.  Calling St. Bart’s a tropical paradise would hardly scratch the surface, and the Le Toiny is the island’s crown jewel.

Even the most seasoned romance novelist would have a difficult time concocting a setting quite like this- Le Toiny consists of 15 pastel-colored bungalows, spaciously set apart and set along a gentle slope overlooking the bay of Toiny and the Caribbean Sea.  Each is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, has its own gated entrance, and a red mailbox flag that replaces the traditional ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign.  This exquisite combination of Caribbean luxury and utmost seclusion mix together as seamlessly as a signature cocktail on a warm Caribbean night.

Each of these ultra-exclusive seaside cottages features its own terrace which gloriously overlooks the shimmering Caribbean Sea, and its own private plunge pool.  The junior suites feature large bay windows that open directly to the terrace, and provide panoramic vistas of the Bay of Toiny.  The spacious bathrooms feature Italian tiles, bathtub with Jacuzzi, a roomy stall shower, and two wash basins.  Modern amenities like air conditioning, a 40 inch plasma screen television, discrete bedside LED reading lights, a Nespresso coffee machine, a state of the art Bang & Olufsen telephone system and satellite television ensure that your stay at Le Toiny will be well above comfortable.

The Villa Suites feature three large glass paneled doors which open directly onto the spacious terrace and private plunge pool area.  While the Junior Suites overlook the gentle Bay of Toiny, the one-bedroom villa suites provide unforgettable views of the Caribbean Sea.  Each Villa Suite is a freestanding, custom-designed Caribbean cottage surrounded by abundant verdant foliage, so each is completely secluded and features a unique view of the Caribbean Sea and the surrounding landscape.  The bedroom is separated from the living room by a sliding partition, and features colonial style furniture that evokes memories of the days when the French empire still stretched across the globe.  ‘Majestic’ is the only word that can be used to describe the mahogany four-poster beds found in these suites.  La Villa, the Le Toiny’s largest suite, includes all of the aforementioned features and amenities, in a setting adapted for three bedrooms.  La Villa consists of the Master Villa and two nearby bungalows, making it ideal for family celebrations.

And while its grand features like private cottages with their own terraced swimming pools that make the Le Toiny stand out, it’s the small, thoughtful touches and superb attention to detail from the caring staff that set the Le Toiny apart from the myriad of other Caribbean luxury resorts.  For example, not only do the accommodations feature iPod docking stations, they feature iPods that come with a carefully selected, wide variety of song libraries, so that you can still enjoy some music even if you left your iPod at home.  We’re talking about things like the individual snorkeling equipment found in each room and the fresh fruit and cold water that the thoughtful attendants at the fitness center keep you constantly refreshed with.  Speaking of which, the fitness center is a gym that contains state of the art equipment and faces the ocean, with natural light flooding in.  Besides taking advantage of the exercise equipment, you can also arrange for private yoga lessons and pilate classes, here, at the spa, in the garden outside, or in the comfort of your own room.  For other healthy activities, you can also use the nearby tennis courts or by embarking on a trek along the two-mile walking path that permits guests to explore the Point of Toiny.  Take time during your walk to relax and watch the Caribbean surf as it gently crashes into the shore, losing yourself in the peace and serenity of Le Toiny’s 29 acres.

The serenity of the environment that the walking path takes you at is captured by the hotel’s spa, The Serenity Spa Cottage.  The spa offers a wide range of expert treatments and utilizes Linge St. Barth, an exquisite line of local spa products featuring exotic oils and fragrances of the Caribbean islands that contain extracts of pineapple, papaya, melon, passion fruit, and mango.  Each treatment will leave you feeling completely refreshed and rejuvenated, and most importantly, ready to enjoy another day in this island wonderland to the fullest.

At the restaurant Le Gaiac, gourmet chef Stephane Mazieres masterfully concocts a delicious blend of French and Creole culinary fare. Start with a ceviche of chilled mahi-mahi with apple and coconut milk, and than move onto a fresh grilled Caribbean lobster.  Or start with a Caribbean lobster club with candied pineapple and than finish with a squid-ink spaghetti with sun-dried tomatoes, scallops, and lemons.  You can even meet with the head chef to create a personalized menu for a private dinner out on your terrace for an unparalleled romantic dining experience.  All of the vegetables here are grown in the hotel’s own greenhouse, located on the site of a former pineapple field.

Beyond Le Hotel Toiny’s luxurious clutches, some truly thrilling activities await you.  Explore beautiful coral reefs with their colorful tropical fish and tortoises by snorkeling.  All the equipment you’ll need (snorkel, mask, and flippers) is already in your room.  St. Barth’s is also perhaps the safest diving destination in the world, so beginners can enjoy the thrills of scuba diving without worrying about the dangers that are inherent at many other premier diving destinations.  The island rests on a continental surf, and 15 different marine nature reserves are just a few minutes away by boat.

Discover St. Barth’s and its neighbors on a leisurely sailboat excursion.  We recommend going on a sunset cruise complete with cocktails.  Or hike to the remote Columbier Beach, which is only accessible by foot or by boat.  Hike to the top of Mount Vitet, which provides perfect vistas of this beautiful island in its entirety.  Fishing enthusiasts, surfers, and windsurfers will all be overjoyed by the conditions that St. Barth’s offers for these activities.

When you daydreamed about your wedding or honeymoon in your younger years, even your most vivid pondering probably didn’t approach the luxury and exclusivity that this island wonderland in the sparkling Caribbean has to offer- and now, with Le Toiny, you can turn these thoughts into a reality.

Hotel Le Toiny is the best for the small, intimate Caribbean experience!
Hotel Le Toiny is an award winning hotel experience that is anything but typical. The General Managers are Dagmar and Guy Lombard who were most recently at Richard Branson’s Kasbah Tamadot in Morocco. They do an amazing job of delivering flawless guest service and their positive energy can be felt throughout the entire hotel. Hotel Le Toiny is made up of a main house with one restaurant, reception and free standing bar to gather before dinner or quiet conversation. There are 15 oceanview, villa suites and each has recently been refinished with a rich colonial influence. The suites are steps away from the main house and provide spectacular ocean views. Each suite is gently surrounded by beautiful landscapes which conceal your own private pool. The food is amazing. Don’t miss the culinary artistry of Chef Stephane Mazieres at Le Gaïac, soon to be Relais Gourmand. Of course you can enjoy privacy and have any meal poolside in your private villa suite. St Bart’s is for food lovers and explorers. Let the staff arrange a mini cooper for you to see the island or perhaps try a private tour. Le Toiny can prepare a picnic basket for you to take to one of the many beautiful beaches around St Bart’s. Finish off a great day with a relaxing a spa treatment or soothing massage. Hotel Le Toiny is a gem and is to be savored.
