Hotel Villa Magna
The Hotel Villa Magna, on a tree lined boulevard, is all modern and contemporary on the outside but inside is another story. Here you’ll find elaborate window treatments, old world paintings, dental molding and large chandeliers. Lounges are similarly traditional with their brocaded sofas, handwoven carpeting and burl side tables.
The immediate area is called area Ortega y Gasset and is one of the shopping areas where some of the best international brands are found. The Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen museums are also close by. Many guests, including regular celebrity visits, call this home when in Madrid.
The popular champagne bar pours nearly 100 brands of bubbly and, with the rest of the hotel, welcomes guests to the good life. In back, the Chinese restaurant has a patio section, and the fine-dining room on the other side of the lobby offers Mediterranean fare in a library setting warm with knotty paneling. The adjoining terrace is especially popular on summer evenings.
Also on hand are a small gym, a hammam and a sauna. The 12 lavish meeting rooms are some of the most coveted gathering spaces in the city, with the largest of the bunch able to accommodate up to 1,000 people at cocktail parties. Rounding out the options are a variety of business services, a garage, and an entrance to the adjoining El Corte Ingles department store, which does not intrude on Villa Magna’s unique tranquility.
The rigorously maintained, fresh-looking accommodations sport sumptuous soft goods in subdued earth tones and rich textures. Some of the older carved furniture remains, contrasting nicely with the cloudlike beds piled high with duvets and feather pillows.
All units come with desks, three digital dual-line phones with voice mail and data ports, high-speed Internet access, TVs, concealed minibars, safes, carpeted dressing areas, bedside controls and wide double-glazed windows with fine views.
Marble baths provide dual basins, magnifying mirrors, hair dryers, robes and nice toiletries. Some rooms in back run to the small side. The premium rooms offer all the expected perks. Valet and room service are on call at all times, and the courteous, attentive staff speaks fluent English.
