The Kempinski Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten is certainly the most famous of the luxury hotels in Munich. Founded in 1858 and destroyed during a World War II air raid, it retains its traditional reputation.  It is actually a landmark of the neighborhood and its entrance is marked with an array of international flags.  This is appropriate as the guests staying are almost always from all of the flags that are being flown.  The National Theater and the most exclusive shops are steps away. 

A stained-glass dome impressively crowns the bustling lobby and daringly close lounge, which, for some, is the social heart of Munich. The exceptional, locally popular afternoon tea provides entertainment for the guests and  new arrivals bound for the elliptical front desk that dominates one side of the room. The rest of the lobby is of classic dark wood, cremes and red decor.

The Vue Maximilian is one of Germany's most celebrated establishments, and its tables are a discreet distance from one another.  The bistro-style menu mixes the novel with the tried and true.

A glassed-in rooftop pool is open to the air in summer. Though not large, it simulates a riptide with a countercurrent machine. The surrounding pool deck is lined with bistro tables and plush beachside recliners. A modest fitness center, solarium and sauna all help guests relieve stress.

Recently refurbished rooms have been updated into a pleasant modern motif of tans, plush carpets, subtly contemporary furnishings countered with hints of an abstract flare.

All rooms have air-conditioning, phones, high-speed Internet access, flat-screen TVs, minibars and bedside controls. Standard rooms are not as appealing as the superiors, which are larger, brighter and generally more comfortable.

Deluxe rooms are larger still and feature sprawling black marble baths anchoring the sun-filled rooms with wall-sized mirrors and compass studded mosaic floors.

Top-priced Deluxe Category rooms feature sitting areas and more sumptuous decor pairing modern and antique paintings to near perfection. Some rooms have been converted into Parlour Suites, which boast added luxury and opulence. Special touches here include an impressive pillow selection and fresh flowers.

Room service never stops, and smoke-free rooms are available. Dogs are permitted. Laundry service and wheelchair accessible rooms are likewise available. Security includes surveillance, 24-hour staffing and key card entrances to rooms.
