Fairmont Copley Plaza
Fairmont Copley Plaza, the French Renaissance landmark hotel opened in 1912, faces Copley Square and it still one of Boston’s most luxurious hotels. Traditionalists will really appreciate the fact that recent upgrades have added contemporary accents but most of the work done was restoration. Locals still fill the hotels on Sunday mornings for the Copley’s brunch, an institution that’s been kept up and better, some say, than ever.
The hallways leading to the rooms are wide and lined with antiques. The rooms include period pieces and some even have four poster beds as well as elaborate window treatments, carved bureaus, large desks. All the modern conveniences have been added and include flat screen TV’s, iPod docking stations and laptop size safes.
The best rooms here are the Signature Copley and Signature rooms facing Copley Square preferable. The latter pair put a contemporary spin on their decor, are larger and boast king beds and large sitting areas with enough space to entertain in.
However a step above that is The Fairmont Gold section which is actually like a hotel within a hotel. The special lounge feels like an elaborate Back Bay apartment and has excellent views. Several food and beverage presentations are offered each day. The rooms in this category also feature twice daily maid service and free wireless internet access. The baths offer magnifying mirrors, pedestal sinks, robes and hair dryers.
This elegant and grand hotel still does a good job of catering to business and conventioneers alike. However, it’s the leisure guest that prefers old world elegance that most appreciate the Fairmont Copley Plaza.
