Amangiri

Amanresorts builds hotels that are luxurious and at the same time unique in the way they integrate themselves into whatever geographical area their located.  Like children that are born to the perfect parents and well reared, they most often turn out just great.  The 600 acre luxury resort Amangiri which is located in U.S. “landscape heaven” does the family proud. It is surrounded by such iconic attractions as the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Grand Staircase – Escalante and Bryce and Zion National Parks.  Spectacular Lake Powell is a mere 15 minutes away.

The ecosystem surrounding Amangiri encompasses a remarkable diversity of plants and animal species, including the endangered California Condor. Fossils dating back more than 160 million years attest to the area’s wealth of dinosaurs in the distant past.

Like many of the world’s most idyllic spots, getting here is not easy.  The nearest airport is Page, Arizona which is about 250 miles from Phoenix and an hour’s flight. From Page airport the hotel is approximately 25 minutes (Amangiri provides complimentary transfers if you prefer not to rent a car) Arrival to this desert resort is via a winding road that descends into the valley and leads to the central Pavilion. Built around the main swimming pool, the Pavilion embraces a dramatic stone escarpment. Within the Amangiri Pavilion is the Living Room, Gallery, Library, Dining Room, Private Dining Room and Cellar.

Accomodations:
Two accommodation wings lead from the Pavilion into the desert: 16 suites are located within the North Wing and another 16 suites together with the Aman Spa are located within the South Wing. Outward views from the resort look over the untouched valley surrounded by lofty bluffs. The views are inspiring to say the least. The Amangiri library situated on an elevated plinth in the centre of the Pavilion. A series of extended sofas is punctuated with ledges filled with books and magazines – the ideal space for daytime relaxing or after dinner drinks.

Activities:
Amangiri can arrange activities that include hiking, boating on Lake Powell, archaeoligical tours, hot air balooning and helicopter tours. Like most past guests of an Aman hotel, you'll love coming back to the superb  amenities with which Aman never fails to impress. The swimming pool is set within a sunken courtyard framed by the Pavilion and rock escarpment. It wraps around the rock to finish with a hot tub that sits at the base of a rock wall. The pool’s lounging terrace features king-sized day beds and pairs of sun-loungers.

Dining:
The Amangiri dining room features floor-to-ceiling glass doors which open onto the outdoor dining terrace overlooking the swimming pool. The focal point of the dining room is the open kitchen with its wood-fired oven imparting a unique flavor and rustic authenticity to Amangiri's cuisine. The menu will change frequently, driven by locally-sourced seasonal produce. The dining room offers the ambience of a private residence with what we suspect will be informed and attentive service.

Spa:
The 25,000-square feet Aman Spa at Amangiri is a vast complex of stone, water features and streams of light, offering a number of unique treatment venues. The Water Pavilion offers hydrotherapy treatments, the Floatation Pavilion offers colour therapy-enhanced floatation treatments and the Watsu Pool offers a unique form of water Shiatsu. The Amangiri Spa offers single and double treatment rooms in addition to two outdoor treatment terraces with spectacular views of the mesas.  We doubt that anyone will be disappointed.

The Amangiri Beauty Salon offers manicures and pedicures while the Pilates Studio offers professional equipment and Amanresorts’ unique Pilates assessment, as well as yoga classes. The Fitness Centre on the upper level of the Aman Spa is fully equipped with a wide range of cardio, strength-training and free-weight exercise equipment.

Amangiri is a destination in itself but also the perfect add on to a week of skiing or too much partying in Vegas.  Whatever, we’re pretty sure Amangiri will become a revered retreat for the sophisticated traveler.

Aman Spa at Amangiri:

The Aman Spa at Amangiri is a 2,322-square metre (25,000-square feet) escape from the stresses of the outside world. As guests move from space to space within the Spa, their sense of discovery and peace echoes that of moving through the rock formations and canyons within the surrounding landscape. The entrance to the Spa is reminiscent of nearby slot canyons, and opens into an intimate reception and lounge area featuring a glass tiled sky-lit reflection pool and central fireplace. Leading off the reception are consultation rooms and a walkway opening to a private courtyard that in turn leads to either individual dressing rooms or a series of pavilions.

Water Pavilion:

A key feature of the Aman Spa is the Water Pavilion which offers Hydrotherapy treatments. Upon entry, the eye is immediately drawn towards large wooden doors which pivot to reveal an outside area containing a heated, stone-lined, step pool. Terraces rise on three sides, blending with the rock face and offering additional seating. The central reception has a large open area complete with fireplace and lounge seating. Beyond are showers, a sauna, a cold plunge pool and a sculpted steam room.

Floatation Pavilion:

Floatation therapy is a sensory treatment allowing guests to reach a depth of relaxation which takes many years to achieve with classical meditation techniques. Entry to the Floatation Pavilion is via a stone pathway leading across a reflection pool towards an open fireplace. The moulded floatation room utilizes colour therapy and is a meditative experience. Connected to the Floatation Pavilion is a private timber-screened open-air relaxation terrace with day bed and hot plunge pool for guests to enjoy after their treatment while reconnecting with their surroundings.

Watsu Pool:

The Watsu Pool is set within the rock face and provides views of the adjacent vertical rock formations. Here guests can experience a unique form of massage which is often described as ‘Shiatsu in water’. This deeply relaxing treatment combines water-based exercise, floatation, assisted stretching and dance in a pool of body-temperature water.

Treatment Rooms & Outdoor Treatment Terraces:

Five walnut-lined, candlelit Treatment Rooms (one double and four single) each feature a foyer, dressing area, treatment area, steam room and bathroom, as well as individual music systems. A range of massage, body treatments, hot stone and healing therapies are offered with accents of Native American wellness traditions. A variety of beauty services including depilation and signature facials are also on offer. Adjacent to the Treatment Rooms is a large reflection pool. Located at one end are two outdoor Treatment Terraces that enjoy sweeping views of the untouched valley.
