Villa la Massa is a fascinating Medicean dwelling on the outskirts of Firenze. Built in the 16th century by the Landini family, successful publishers. In 1778 was owned by the Rinuccinis family very well known having had children who were ambassadors, writers and senators. Subsequently has been home to Hombert and several aristocratic Italian, English and Russian families. In 1948 was turned into a luxury hotel by the Searl. Since then many famous guests have enjoyed a stay at Villa La Massa: Clark Gable, Winston Churchill, Barbara Hutton, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, just to name a few. More recently, David Bowie and Iman took over the Villa for their wedding. Since the Villa d'Este Hotels purchased the hotel in 1998, the whole property has been completely restored according to the Tuscan and Florentine traditions, adding new luster to the sprawling old mansion. The complex of Villa La Massa consist of three villas: the Noble Villa , the Old Mill and the Villino.
