In the hotel world what is the difference between Old Luxury and New Luxury? You may think that it means a hotel has been renovated. You’re only partially right. New Luxury is more then just a major facelift of the premises and in this case we're talking the big one. The one that usually is done only once.
They have restored the facade of the historic Main Building to its original state of 1899 and added two spectacular, sweeping wings: 173 luxurious rooms and suites, a spa covering some 4,000 square metres, first-class cuisine and generously proportioned banqueting and seminar facilities. Every conceivable part of this grand hotel has been gutted and totally brought to international luxury standards that well......"Set Standards" There is very little that has not been thought of from the superb technology to the exquisite decor of public spaces and rooms. Certainly there is too much to remark about in this small review. Suffice to say it’s all pretty glamorous by anyone’s standards.
But New Luxury is also about the attitude of and interaction between staff and guest. Here is where the Dolder Grand sets standards that are not easy to duplicate and what make this hotel truly exquisite. One cannot even imagine the level of training that went into this. How can so many people all look and play the part to perfection. The Swiss are famous for their hotel schools and judging by what was experienced here we’re talking Wharton or Harvard. How is it that they know how to be so friendly but not intrusive in any way? How is that any request is met with such a sincere interest and timely response? Why am I not related to any of these people?
Any room you stay in will be a special experience. Our preference is the Jr. Suites. The views are all beautiful and in the new wing these suites even have baths with views. Make no mistake arriving at the new Dolder Grand is Old Luxury and New Luxury combined or as it is said "the best got better”.
