There are few beaches in the world where one can walk in solitude at any given time on snow-white sand that is as soft as silk; where shades of an aquamarine colored sea under a deep blue sky create a palate that any artist would envy; where the sea is rarely rough and feels as though you’re in the earth’s largest swimming pool, even when you're waist-deep. This is Parrot Cay & Como Shambhala Resort in the Turks and Caicos. The 3 mile long private island is a 3 hour flight from New York or a 60 minutes from Miami and then a short transfer to a waiting launch for the last 35 minutes before heaven on earth is reached. The hotel is part of the Como Group of properties which have strong Asian influences but also maintain there own identity. One third of the employees here are Balinese and bring a certain gentle calmness in their serene and personalized service. You’ll be happy if you’re traveling with children as the Balinese love of children and their nurturing way combined with their incredible patience gives this luxury hotel another very unique advantage. Parrot Cay is on its own island so eating anyplace else is pretty much out of the question unless you get an invite to one of the homes of famous locals such as Donna Karan, Bruce Willis or Christie Brinkley. The food is so good at the hotel that you’re more likely to have them dining with you at one of the hotel's two restaurants. One is Mediterranean inspired and the other Pacific Rim. Executive Chef, Amanda Gale, reigns from Australia (why are we not surprised) as the Ozzie’s are noted for their eclectic style and clean tasting food. It’s hard not to eat healthy here.Accommodations are luxurious in amenities, using the finest linens and toiletries, but understated in their décor as they play on the surroundings. All rooms have Ipod docks for your own music and flat screen TV’s which are or are being installed. There are 44 rooms conveniently located in adjoining buildings. However, the private villas that come with personal butlers are the ideal situation and the coveted accommodation here. They are completely and utterly comfortable and discreetly set behind shrubbery (for privacy) on the beach. Large baths with outdoor and indoor showers and baths adjoin large four poster netted king bedded rooms with high ceilings and fans. (More for effect as the A/C is perfect and quiet.) The bedroom or bedrooms in all the villas open onto the living room terrace and pool. The living area has a separate guest bath as well as a small kitchen. You won’t be doing any cooking but your personal butler uses it all the time to prepare snacks, coffee (including sublime espresso) and any other meal you may wish to have. These amazing Balinese butlers have the talent of being everywhere without being intrusive.
We should all have some of their genes!Parrot Cay is a very special destination that caters to a small number of guests at any given time.
