The 13th Century Ashford Castle is set on the northern shores of Lough Corrib amidst acres of beautiful gardens and forests. Once the country estate of Lord Ardilaun and the Guinness family, it was transformed into a luxury hotel in 1939. The Castle’s Great Hall is lavishly decorated with rich panelling, fine period pieces, objets d’art, and masterpiece paintings. Ashford Castle was named second best hotel in Ireland by Travel and Leisure magazine in January 2006 World’s Best Awards.
There are two restaurants in the Castle. The award winning George “V” Dining Room offers contemporary and traditional menus, while the Connaught Room features the very best of Irish produce and timeless, classic service in the most romantic and elegant room in the castle (open Thursday to Sunday inclusive during the high season). The Drawing Room serves lunch, afternoon tea, and offers a more casual evening dining option. It’s a great place to relax without the formality of a restaurant. A short stroll across the River Cong, Cullen’s at the Cottage is the final piece of the jigsaw regarding the Ashford dining experience. Cullen’s offers a bistro-style menu with a relaxed atmosphere. Choose a lobster from the tank or enjoy a light salad. Cullen’s allows you an informal option outside the castle, without having to leave the Ashford Estate (open daily from 11am to 9.30pm).
Nightly entertainment is provided in the Dungeon Bar.
