Acqualina Resort and Spa
Sunny Isles, Florida, USA
Acqualina, a boutique hotel with 97 rooms, is Located midway between Fort Lauderdale and South Beach (20 minutes from either) and is the top hotel in the area. The beautiful oceanfront resort is in a 50-story tower that shares space with luxury condominiums. The Acqualina Resort and Spa accommodations are, hands down, the largest of any in the area. The smallest rooms at Acqualina measure 600 square feet and all baths have separate baths and showers. The interiors throughout Acqualina are realized in a fresh, updated, upscale Floridian bent that provides a new take on an old look. The lobby is done in an eclectic traditional style that incorporates bold colors and contemporary art work with classic lines and finishes.
Dining to at Acqualina is chic and elegant, though resort casual, with Mediterranean flavors spicing up both of the restaurants. The main restaurant, Il Mulino New York, offers up all meals, changing from casual at breakfast to elegant in the evening. Italian food is featured, but as the name indicates, the menu is eclectic. The casual grill serves varied Mediterranean specialties at lunchtime during the week. Both restaurants expand their hours and menus on the weekends. The bar is a lavish affair, service by white-coated waiters, and pool service is quick.
Acqualina's recreational options are superlative, offering three pools, including a tranquil adults-only plunge with cabanas that rent by the day. The exceptional 20,000-sq-ft spa boasts 16 treatment rooms, as well as separate men's and women's quarters with dressing areas, lockers and saunas. The grounds are dotted with lots of nooks and well-furnished refuges, most done up with the hotel's signature lipstick-red seating. Kids have their own programs, which frees up time for parents, and the beach area is furnished to high standards. Beach cabanas are also available for rent.
Only one of the standard units eyes the ocean, though all of the suites are pointing out across the Atlantic. Having said that, many prefer the city views with from which to catch the afternoon sun and sunset on the large furnished balconies. All have flat-screen TVs, DVD and CD players, stereos with MP3 capabilities, work space with multiline phones, wired and wireless Internet access, safes, irons and ironing boards, robes, slippers, minibars, coffeemakers and thermostats. The vast and lavish one- and two-bedroom suites range in size from 1,000 to 2,500 sq ft, all with fully equipped kitchens. The dishwashers are a nice touch. Housekeeping is excellent.
Room service at the Acqualina Resort and Spa runs nonstop, and turn-down, twice-daily maid service, complimentary newspapers, shoe shine and a liberal fee-based pet policy bespeak of this hotel's luxury status.
