One of Denver's most famous homes belonged to a backwoods social clinmber who made it big by marrying the right man.  Margaret (Molly) Brown was a sufftagate who survived the sinking of the Titanic (earned her the name "Unsinkable Molly Brown") and ran for U.S. Senate.  She lost but that was before women had the right to vote.
